WARNER BROTHERS WINS

BUPA 2nd; IMPERIAL TOBACCO 3rd

JOHN KEY & HIS GOVERNMENT WINNER OF ACCOMPLICE AWARD

PETER JACKSON WINS QUISLING AWARD

Finalists: BUPA, Imperial Tobacco Telecom, Vodafone, Warner Brothers and Westpac. The Government (specifically John Key) was the only finalist for the Accomplice Award(as part of the nomination of Warner Brothers). Criteria: the transnational (a corporation which is 25% or more foreign-owned) which is worst in each or all of the following:  Economic Dominance -Monopoly, profiteering, tax dodging, cultural imperialism. People - Unemployment, impact on tangata whenua, women, children, abuse of workers/conditions, health and safety of workers and the public, cultural imperialism. Environment - Environmental damage, abuse of animals. Political interference - Cultural imperialism, running an ideological crusade. Judges: Paul Corliss, from Christchurch, a life member of the Rail and Maritime Transport Union; Christine Dann, from Banks Peninsula, a writer and researcher; Sue Bradford, from Auckland, a community activist and former Green MP; Joce Jesson, a Senior Lecturer in Critical Studies in Education, University of Auckland and an activist in various community organisations; and Wayne Hope, Associate Professor, Communications Studies, Auckland University of Technology. The winner was announced at an event in Auckland on April 4th.

Warner Brothers was a first time nominee. The Judges’ Statement says that: ''The ‘Hobbit’ affair was an extraordinary example of transnational capital interfering in local politics, and overtly influencing the actions of the NZ Government (which richly deserves its Accomplice Award). It was an overt display of bullying that humiliated every New Zealander, and deliberately set out to do that… such interference in New Zealand politics sets a precedent for all future negotiations between the New Zealand government and transnational corporations”. It won because of its interference in NZ politics and governance and treatment of employees and contractors.

BUPA (which is the second biggest retirement home chain in NZ) came second “primarily because of its poor treatment of both its staff and its clients” (one of whom, a 100 year old woman, died after suffereing considerably for several months from misdiagnosed and untreated scabies). Imperial Tobacco came third, not only for selling a product which kills and addicts its users, but because of its role in setting up a fake citizens’ organisation to lobby for its product, a tactic which the judges described as “despicable and deceitful”.

John Key and his Government won the Accomplice Award for their ignoble role in the whole Warner Brothers/”Hobbit” affair. “It has apparently given rise to a whole new men’s fashion garment in Hollywood – Warners of Wellington trousers. They have an arrow printed on the seat, and the words ‘kiss here’”.

The judges announced a special Quisling Award for Sir Peter Jackson (to be awarded to the individual New Zealander who does the most to facilitate foreign control of New Zealand), once again for his role in the Warner Brothers/”Hobbit” affair. “Sir Peter Jackson – you are fully worthy of joining that other blackened knight, that other exemplar in selling out your country to foreign corporations, the one for whom this award is named – Sir Roger Douglas”. So, a triple sweep for the movie industry – the Roger, the Accomplice and the Quisling. Says it all really, doesn’t it.

Oh, missed that ... bet it was fun!

You beauty!  This is lovely.  Oh, but how many people know?  Can we not have a return of a post millenium wake up "piggy bank' or some kind of comedy merchandise like a toilet roll printed with the logos of ... oh no!  They'll sue!  Ah!  E!  I'm sure someone has plans for this.  But are we sure?  Nothing wrong with a few versions of the same idea knocking about, the more the merrier!

Oh well, just a book of "soft paper" catalogue of our favourite monopoly corporations with convenient perferorations (just so they can be stuck on the frigde, you know, a few a day, for purposes of public adulation).

Is there commentary anywhere

Is there commentary anywhere on how the whole pathetic "middle earth" palaver was really about preventing people who would've ordinarily been advantaged from the Supreme Court decision in the Three Foot Six case from claiming employee status?  The whole shambles just smacked of this but have seen nobody talk about it. The whole issue got smothered by all this nationalistic shit about bloody kiwi earth or what ever they were on about.  Was just nuts, and came from people we should expect would know better.

That's discussed in the AWSM

That's discussed in the AWSM article on it, Behind the Spectacle of the Hobbit.

The list can go on

I congratulate the jury or judges on the panel to making such qualified decisions. This is a good assessment of what we should value and not (the first being hardly of relevance here).

Next competition is:

Who is the fastest and most thorough dollar bill licker in the country?

Second category may soon be chosen by questions like:

Who is the best at getting laid by their boss and to do other things she or he would never do, but is ready to do for a job, promotion a pay-rise or even a "share" in the business?

Well, who is the most dedicated slave, whore or mercenary to qualify for a shopping voucher for our biggest retail outlet for one year?

So we know what goes on , but at least in this case some sanity prevailed.

Anybody qualifying for the above will better wake up soon, because our patience is running dry by the day!

Good on ya!

Just a thought ...

Just a little nagging doubt ...

Sue Bradford and the others you mention have been around for decades ... they have practically overseen the degradation of our human rights in the service of the foreign corporate politic.

A knave like me might want to know how much they have been paid to not try too hard - considering the rich array of fascinating community theatres-as-news that they could have led had they the wit or the inclination.  Instead, Sue led us on pre-fab demo after demo with waning numbers like a WW I Field Marshall once again over the top and at 'em though she was (and is) not short of fine advisors who tender(ed) many and various alternative strategies that could have kept some spirit alive.

Coming back with, "We felt we had orders from London not to resist," does not cut it with me.  While you lot enjoyed your decades of public adulation and tried to keep a brave face on our many defeats me and Future Trevs were tied up in tight dark airless growbags marked "toxic psyops weapons".

Its time for the women in the Haka Party to grasp your pois firmly, step back and allow the men through, I humbly subit.  Me and the Trevs have our comedy rubber chickens and plastic Marea tiahas at the ready.

We are here to the end - that's what good warriors live for, to die well. And it might save you the trouble, so that should make our proposal a little more palatable for you.  Lets say we're just kicking you upstairs ... Those who have perverted our land will be sanctioned, censured, and even executed if the Legal Trevs declare that it must be so (that can be your job).  Much of what has been pushed on us the last decades are notifiable offenses and many of those offenses have been notified.  We all know everyone has a file, even the bloody Pope has one.

Does Sue console herself these days that we are so close to total humiliation that she has put up the good fight in Parliament?  Or does history judge her for her failures to lead and the movement for its failures to be led?

Good comments and quite

Good comments and quite funny.  Now a little sturdy follow-up, does anyone know that administering poisons to the people is a war crime.  It is so described by the Geneva Conventions which says blithley that targeting civilians is a war crime.  Seems that Peter Jackson should know that and follow through with the peoples plan, which is to take over control of the means of production such as land and grow eatable food again instead of a poison corp. affair.  That includes forming of Organic Agricultural Communes, worker controlled for each village, town and City so a medicare situ comedy can come back and refresh our tables now that nothing non-polluted is on them.  Just a little curious, of this titanic mistake of chemical, poisoned food on our plates, and toxic chlorine in our drinking water.  Now fukushima for our power supply.  What does fascism for money look like anyways.

Save the planet, Re-tool to the Renewables.

The sun shines on every rooftop and equally in all lands.  The liberation process is for tooling the sunshine to electric power that can when transformed to electricity run your phone, heat your house, refrigerate your food, light your rooms, run you communications, and with an electric motor and a plug in give you overnight three hundred fifty miles the next day on your vehicles.  So Save the very world in which the sun saves and grows life every day of every year.  Viva socialist liberation.
