Rally for Christchurch!

Press Release:

                                            Rally For Christchurch!

Over 70 people attended a public meeting in Linwood Park on Saturday 2nd April from 1 pm. The event, created by Action for Christchurch East, was for residents who wanted to get their voices heard, to get involved in the Christchurch recovery and want to help build local community networks. Issues such as heating, sewerage, employment and transparency of the decision process were all raised. Spokesperson Matt Jones stated, "we're not assuming to have all the answers, but the answers are among our neighbors and communities, we've waited since September for action and we're sick of waiting any longer"

The Rally was split into smaller groups to ensure everyone had a say. It was eventually agreed the group would help facilitate similar meetings throughout their neighborhoods in the next few weeks whilst another much larger Rally is planned for Saturday 16th at 1pm at Linwood Park. "We want to see as many people as possible, judging from today's event we are going to see many new faces and many new ideas and plans emerge" said Matt Jones.

Yes it was a good forum:

Yes it was a good forum: everyone was given a chance to speak in the wider assembly, and then the smaller groups really cemented the initial conversations.

What amazed me was the amount of things we aren't privy to in Christchurch. Each resident had a story of some kind of dodgy dealings, heavy-handed bureaucracy or mis-information. The fact that workers in the CBD clearing rubble were being payed $25 and hour, but were being contraced out at $200 is beyond belief. As usual, the few are profiting out of our misery....

Bring on the next bigger and better forum!

The earthquake and resulting aftermath is showing us the inequalities that exist - the struggle of the impoverished, and the relentless advancement of those with economic power (much of that power that they unjustly have).

Rise Up All Activists, and plot.

Too true ...

Who are these rich empowered individuals that malign us so?

Let's find out who they are ... how and why they stick together.  There we will find what it is that separates them from us, then we shall know their pressure points.

Do they all have holiday homes in the USA?

Are they all Catholics, for example?

Did they all go to same school, belong to the same clubs?  What are their affliations?

I suspect that a good solid Google will offer some worthy suggestions ...
